Rev. John B.
Garrett
Pastor and
Founder of
Cornerstone
of Faith Missionary Church
John B.
Garrett is the eighth of 9 siblings born in Buford, GA. The
death of Garrett’s mother when he was only nine and other
circumstances in his youth forged a strong character in
him. Upon graduation from Buford High School, Rev. Garrett
enlisted with the United States Army. There he served
honorably for 21 years. During these years, although he did
not recognize God’s plan, his experience in serving this
country and working with people at all levels of labor and
management would prove to be invaluable in his eventual
calling by God.
1965-Baptized at Union Baptist
Church, Buford, GA, by the Rev. R. E. Cooper.
1990-Appointed a Deacon at St. John Institutional Missionary Baptist
Church,
New Orleans, LA, by the
Rev. Dr. Willie Earl Hausey.
1993-Ordained a Deacon at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, New
Orleans,
LA, by the Rev.
Joseph Lee Gaines.
1999-Licensed to Preach the Gospel by the Rev. Joseph Lee Gaines.
2000-Ordained by the Louisiana Rescue Mission Association, New Orleans,
LA.
Rev. Garrett
attended the Arthur P. Clay Theological Seminary and holds a
Bachelor’s Degree in Theological Studies from the Freddie H.
Dunn Bible College.
In mid
2000, Rev. Garrett and his family relocated to Georgia. He
is married to the former Angela Cooper and they are the
proud parents of six children and 13 grandchildren. They
currently reside in Flowery Branch, GA.
In February
2007, Pastor Garrett and others who had the same vision
formed Cornerstone of Faith Missionary Church in
Gainesville. The church believes that God placed them in
their current location to proclaim God’s message to Hall
County and to bring down social, racial and religious
barriers.
Pastor
Garrett loves seeing the lives of others transformed,
trained and transitioned back into society as new creatures
in Christ Jesus. He serves voluntarily with the Hall County
Judicial System and Prison Ministry. He also leads the B2B
(Brother to Brother) Men’s Ministry of COFMC, in seeking the
Kingdom of God first, and teaching them to watch how the
Lord will honor them in all areas of their lives. One of
his favorite scriptures is found in Hebrews 11:1, “Now
faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of
things not seen.”
Because God
has given Pastor Garrett an assignment and the anointing and
authority to carry it out, the enemy constantly attacks him
and the ministry. However, God has always been faithful to
give Pastor Garrett and his church family His word to
overcome all opposition. “For we walk by faith and
not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
